Cannot read from PWR_MGMT_1

Hello

I am using MPU 6000 connected to PIC32 through SPI. I have noticed a really strange behavior of my program. Reading Who I am or raw data is fine, however when I try to read registers such as PWR_MGMT_1 or USER_CTRL I receive 0. Moreover, the SPI connection works without resetting and waking up device or disabling the I2C. Can you tell me what the problem could be?
