Both Optical Image Stabilization (OIS) and Electronic Image Stabilization (EIS) are sensor-powered methods to compensate for movement and jitter that degrade the quality of photographs and videos. The latest smartphones, cameras, and drones use OIS and/or EIS to deliver sharp images and smooth high-resolution videos.
Image Stabilization
Integrating gyroscope powered OIS into camera modules has proven to be a highly effective solution to improve image quality in smartphones, digital cameras, drones and other products with high resolution image sensors. This can enable a smartphone to take professional level pictures that until recently were only possible to expensive DSLR mounted in gimbals.
EIS compensates for any movement caused by hand jitter, turbulence, or bumps that would cause a shaking effect. EIS intelligently crops each individual image based on motion sensor data to reduce video blur. The result is dramatically smoother video capture from devices, such as smartphones, without requiring additional gimbals to provide physical stabilization.
Picture and video quality is a key selling point for smartphones, and increasingly incorporated into tablets and laptops
DSLR, super zoom, point & shoot, as well as sports action cameras need top-notch stabilization to deliver amazing image quality
Enable super smooth and clear imaging on drones, even in windy conditions
Safe and smooth movement depends on accurate object and environmental sensing enabled by stabilized imaging
