ITG3200 Gyro status confusion

The ITG3200 has 2 status flags, RAW_DATA_RDY and ITG_RDY.

Quite often the reading shows that the RAW_DATA_RDY is set, but the ITG_RDY is not. Now, I do not know how to interpret this, or to fix it, if it is indeed a problem. The readings for t,x,y and z appear to be correct, as far as I can tell. The questions, then are: What does it mean when ITG_RDY is not set? Should it be viewed as a failure or ignored? If it is a failure, what needs to be done to make it ready, as when it does occur, it seems to stay low forever?

In my setup INT_ ANYRD_ 2CLEAR is 0 and CLK_SEL is 1.
