MPU6000 range

Hello,

The MPU6000 accelerometer can be configured to support up to +-16g. It can also be defined to use a digital LPF.

My question: If i configure the mpu6000 to +-8G and to 10 Hz LPF, What comes first?
1. The MPU FIRST samples at +-16G THEN LPF to 10Hz AND THEN limit to +-8G.

OR

2. The MPU samples at +-8G AND THEN LPF to 10Hz.
