Noob Non-Designer, Non-Electrical Engineer ISO Advice

By jasonyang , 13 July 2014

Hi There - I have a sporting goods related product prototype I cobbled together a few years back by harvesting components from existing electronic novelty products.

I am interested in building a V2 prototype, and am trying to educate myself on the availability and utility of low cost components.

The main functional requirements of the device are:

Multi-axis gyro or other sensor to detect motion and potentially speed/force

Programmable sound chip and basic speaker to emit variable, pre-programmed sound files based on motion/speed/force.

Power leads for LED light array

Small array of components which can ideally be battery powered or rechargeable via USB power.

Again, without revealing too much detail, this is for a sporting goods / consumer electronic type product, so total BOM cost, weight, and power consumption are primary areas of concern.

Any advice appreciated.
