Running the Embedded motion apps on MPU6000

I'm trying to run the Embedded motion apps on MPU6000 instead of MPU6500.
I'm using the I2C interface of the MPU6000, and according to the datasheet, the MPU6000 is exactly the same as the MPU6500.
apparently it's not. it's not working. reading the WHO_AM_I register returns a wrong value.
my question is,
To which revision of the MPU6500 the MPU6000 is compatiable, rev A, or rev B ?
Do I need to modify the embedded motion apps in order for it to work ? or it should work out of the box with my setup ?
