MPU9150+MotionApps for 9DOF *internal* sensor fusion

By stefano_r , 10 June 2012

Dear Invensense,

approaching the release date of MPU9150 I am wondering about the announced **internal** 9 DOF sensor fusion for non-Atmel AVR microcontroller. We need to keep our current micro (STM32F4xx), but aim for internal 9 DOF sensor fusion.

a) Will motion apps support this at the release date of MPU9150?
b) Will motion apps support compass calibration of the MPU9150's internal AK compass chip?

I do not care about the source code of software, but I would like to be able to create or copy a binary that I can "transfer" onto MPU9150 at runtime to enable **internal** 9DOF sensory fusion. When will this be available?

Thank you very much for your concern!

What I have been told by the company a few months ago is that the DMP does not actually support onboard 9-axis fusion. It does seem like a misrepresentation may have been made, though perhaps it was a misinterpretation. MotionApps does however include the necessary code to integrate the magnetometer data with the 6-axis solution that comes out of the DMP.

I don't know whether this is completely true or not. It may just be that the company is wary of finding itself in a position of having to support people in troubleshooting magnetically unsound PCB designs. I think that this would be a legitimate concern for them.
