CH101 Hello Chirp download

By kumarsoftiocom , 1 November 2019

Hi. Just received our purchased Chirp Micro DK-CH101 kit + MOD-CH101 modules. The received modules are missing the required FFC cables to mate the sensor modules to the kit (J6-J9). For future readers, the SMD FFC connectors appear to be 8 pin with 0.5mm pitch and contacts on both sides so Molex FFC cables with same side contacts should work. Will know once the parts arrive next week (purchased the missing cables through Mouser) although pretty sure TDK should have supplied these required cables to the distributor.

1) Is there a BOM available for the posted schematic for the DK-CH101? Download URL? BOM would have been helpful to determine the FFC pin pitch instead of using our measuring tools.

2) From where can we download the CH-101 SmartSonic "Hello Chirp" example application? Interested next to review the source code that is present inside the Atmel SAM micro. Is the need for the M4 CPU mandatory or can any I2C bus master be used for this product?

The SmartSonic download (DK-CH101 SmartSonic Installer 1.10.1) from the developer portal does not contain the Atmel project files.

3) From where can we download a full datasheet for the CH101 LGA packaged sensor? Wish to review the low level register information rather than have to reverse engineer with an external I2C bus analyzer.

Will appreciate a reply asap. Distributor has also been pinged but no response as of this writing.

Thanks and bye for now.

Hi, I hope you were successful getting the cables you were looking for.

Fellow participant here. Looks like the required cables are Mouser P/N 538-15166-0115. I have not installed them yet but they look correct.
MFG PN: 15166-0115 by Moloex "FFC / FPC Jumper Cables". One of my teammates knew they needed to order these cables to go with the dev kit and additional sensors somehow.

Example application can be downloaded from https://www.invensense.com/developers/software-downloads/. The SmartSonic Installer and Hello Chirp examples are both listed there. But you probably found that out already.

Well, I can't seem to edit my former post but I have confirmed Mouser P/N 538-15166-0115 (MFG PN: 15166-0115) is NOT the right jumper cable to connect additional CH101 to the eval board. If anyone knows the right cable, please let me know.

Hello @orionhapticaio. We did some reverse engineering and brought out the digital calipers to source the proper mating cable. The schematic supplied by TDK / Chirp validated our measurements for the pin pitch of the contacts. Still have not used the extra modules but believe you will be ok to source the following:

Mouser: 538-15166-0075
15166-0075
Molex FFC / FPC Jumper Cables

https://www.mouser.ca/ProductDetail/Molex/15166-0075?qs=N2VrfF4LzQcnF9zew5wqYg==

Please post your update if you proceed to test and find any issues.

Thanks for your reply Kumar! Agree with your conclusion. Found the MOD-CH101 datasheet calls for Molex 15166-0073...15166-0094. Those are the 8-line cables. Starting with 15166-0095 are 10-line cables. Below 0073 is 6 line cables. We had tried to order a longer length but got 10-line cables. Thanks again
