ICS-43434 muffling technique to increase AOP

By stefanoxinetbikeit , 29 November 2022

Hello,
I'm using an ICS-43434 in a loud ambient (music concert hall near instruments). Often the microphone is in saturation and the signal is dirty. I would need to record louder sounds, while I don't care to record soft sounds. I don't need to increase the dynamic range, just to be able to record louder sounds better. What can I do? can i use something to plug the microphone hole?

Hi,

Apologies for the delayed response and thank you for your patience while we work to bring this forum up-to-date.

As for your question on attenuating the acoustic signal in order to bring it within a more reasonable range for the ICS43434, this can be accomplished using an acoustic mesh placed over the microphone port. Typically, lower insertion loss would be preferred but, in your case, a higher loss mesh could be requested from the manufacturer. This has the added benefits of increased environmental protection and also reduced height of the high frequency resonant peak of the microphone.

Regards,
Mike
