Integrating membrane type PIF for CH101

By sanketsoairecom , 10 September 2023

Hello,

We have been unsuccessful in implementing a membrane type PIF on CH101 sensor to protect sensor ingress against liquid splashes and short submerging. The sensor starts giving wrong readings (random values) when a acoustic membrane type PIF is integrated. We have attempted multiple trials on MOD_CH101 with while keeping the existing mesh type PIF & without the Mesh type PIF. We have trialled even with the tube type 180deg horns. The PIFs we have trialled are -

1. Gore series 412
2. Ipro acoustic membranes - PF-Y015

Both these membranes have acoustic loss below 1.5 db one way yet they some how dont seem to work. The attachments has my email chain with TDK india team where there are pictures and more detials of our trials. We have ensured all steps from mechanical integration guide in these trials to the last point. I have also provided data sheets of the membrane manufacturers. I hope to get some help in selecting membranes, or any other parameters that would work at 175khz and will keep stop liquid splashes and short submerging.

We were advised to use MOD_CH101 as it is by the india team but when the liquid comes in contact with the horn and ingress, it forms a film that can be broken only with manual intervention. Rending the MOD_CH101 (45deg) not useful as it is.

Looking forward to support

Did you contact the membrane sources for the working frequency - 175KHz to make sure it still can get the same sound performance? I only see the max frequency up to 10Khz from the performance table you attached. Or you can ship some membrane samples to our FAE, let him send to TDK lab for some testing.
