I have just received a DK42688P development kit and cant get it to run on Win11. I get a message "Object Reference not set to an instance of an object" when I press the initialise button. I have flashed the firmware and set the com port numbers to greater than 10.

Have you manage to solve it?
Hi,
Are you experiencing a similar issue?
its still not solved
I might do. Please check the other post that I replied to you. I believe this things shouldn't have happening in "trendy" development boards. At least not TDK's. Last time I remember, TDK gave some credit to the name of their own brand. I wonder what I paid for. For God's sake!
“Object Reference not set to an instance of an object”
I don't know what software exactly are you referring too. But in case you believe this is the windows 11 compatibility issue, try using windows compatibility mode and select windows 10.
Hi,
Uninstall the whatever MotionLink version you have, and install SmartMotion Installer w/ MotionLink 4.2.11 (Updated 2023.08.21) from https://invensense.tdk.com/developers/software-downloads/
Now I know what you were talking about, as I am getting the same error. I have win 11 and I tried using compatibility mode for win 8. Same thing.
It's not about the release, I have the latest 4.2.11 and it's doing the same thing.
@MOD_Mustafa
Why don't you just try it yourself? Go on Win11, install motionlink, plug it in, etc.
Your clients are sick of wasting their time on half complete projects like TDK's DK42688P is. What kind of customer support is this.
@MOD_Mustafa I'm sorry for my response. I lost my nerve, as I already lost hours on this development board, finding out it is probably not even meant to work on Win11. Which is not declared anywhere and is a disappointment. I'm not accusing you, so please don't take it personally. But please tell your superiors about this problem.
All the best,
Domen
Hi,
I am running it on Win 11 and I don't have a problem with it. If you could provide more step-by-step information on about your connection and Flashing the MCU. I can guide you to the solution.
1. Plug in both USBs. Change UART com port over 10. Open SmartMotion.exe
2. Smart MotionLink Software -> Start MotionLink
3. Select and Config -> sensor board: ICM-42688-P, leave everything by default -> OK
4. Flash MCU - output: “power cycle the board”
5. "power down the board and power it back up" - physically plug if off and back on again
6. Click connect -> output: “Object Reference not set to an instance of an object”
That's what happened. But it's true I didn't flash eMD. So you say I have to flash it with the firmware as in the attachment? And then repeat the process?
Well?
How much longer?
Hi,
Steps you provided sounds right. Can you also share a picture of the board so I can inspect if the jumpers are in correct position?
Hi,
Here. I left jumpers intact - in their default position. Please reply to me ASAP. I can record everything, or we can meet via "online meeting". It just have to be solved fast.
Hi,
Your jumper settings are correct as well. I am not sure why you are getting “Object Reference not set to an instance of an object". I will investigate this further
Hi, please check this problem. They are not the only two people. I also have the same problem.
👋 Don't worry, he will reply to us right before they the new generation release 😭😂
@zipingconggmailcom & @sandgroper
please write an email to the support: INV-idevelopers@tdk.com
Don't let them to ignore you. We paid for something that doesn't even work!
Any update how to solve this issue?
I have the identical problem attempting to use SmartMotion 4.2.11 with a DK-42688-P board. COM2 is the FTDI port. I can run "Select and Config" and select a 42688 IC, but pressing the "1/0" button returns with a dialog, "Object Reference not set to an instance of an object".
Help, please.
One follow-up: the demo\example-algo-visualizer program runs and connects to the device with no issues. That takes the pressure off the error in the SmartMotion program for me.
Same issue in DK42670P DEV kit. Error: Object Reference not set to an instance of an object.
We tried with multiple devices and have not experience issues with win 11. Try running as administrator, it could be windows issue
